What is Delta 9 THC?

What is Delta 9 THC?

If you’re remotely interested in the cannabis plant, you’ve no doubt heard about THC. While there are different forms of THC, the main cannabinoid people are referring to when they use this term is Delta 9.

The actual scientific term for Delta 9 is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-9-THC). Delta 9 is one of the most popular and widely studied cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. It is primarily responsible for the psychotropic effect (high) that people experience when they use cannabis. As indicated above, there are different forms of THC, including Delta 8, Delta 10, THC-O, and THC-P. While each one is unique and has its characteristics, Delta 9 is arguably the “king” of them all regardless of Delta 8 gaining popularity

Delta 9 Effects and Benefits

Delta 9 THC is known to produce a psychotropic effect that is characterized by euphoria, relaxation, and sometimes mental stimulation. This effect is what is referred to as a “high.” In some instances, when people consume a large amount of Delta 9 are known to have hallucinatory and delusory experiences.

The way Delta 9 is consumed can have an effect on the intensity of the effects and how long the high lasts. Eating Delta 9 edibles produce the strongest effect and the high lasts longer—for several hours. The effect is more intense than when you vape or use a cannabis topical product.

The psychotropic effect of Delta is the number one reason why it has become incredibly popular. But this cannabinoid has other uses apart from getting people high. Delta 9 THC has been demonstrated to have clear benefits for alleviating the pain associated with multiple sclerosis and other painful conditions. It also provides relief from the side effects of chemotherapy, such as nausea and emesis. This cannabinoid can also stimulate appetite for people with eating disorders, and reduce anxiety and stress among people dealing with different forms of anxiety. There are many other benefits of Delta 9—some have been more studied than others.

Is Delta 9 Safe?

Delta 9 appears relatively safe, and there’s very little potential for abuse. In January 2019, after a review, the World Health Organization (WHO), recommended that cannabis is no longer categorized as a schedule IV drug.

While Delta 9 is safe for humans, it is toxic for pets. It is not recommended to give your pet any product with more than 0.3% of Delta 9.

Before consuming any substance including Delta 9 THC, be sure to consult your doctor and buy products from a trusted source.
